Self-Care With Your Kids

Self-care is one of the most important things moms can do for themselves. Pouring into yourself helps you to be able to give more to those around you, especially your kids. Many times it’s not possible to simply drop everything and practice self-care, which is when scheduling that time becomes so very important. The great news is that you can still hold space for your daily self-care and involve your kids at the same time. Here are some great ways to incorporate self-care into the days when your kids are still around.

Get out of the House

It’s always fun to have a little adventure time outside of the house. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or even be a whole-day activity. Take your kids to the park while you bring a book or a crochet project. Swing by your local ice cream shop and grab a treat together. Or if you’re feeling really fancy, hit the movie theater where maybe you can sneak in a nap.

Find Calm

Set aside some time and have your kids join you in a guided meditation or yoga practice. Meditation is great for kids learning how to handle their emotions and find calm within their day. Just know if you’re used to getting 30 or more minutes of these things, little bodies probably won’t be able to sit that long. Five or ten minutes will do just fine!

Get Creative

Break out the art and craft supplies and let your imaginations run wild. It’s always fun to let your mind stretch to the creative side of things. When was the last time you glued on googly eyes or made a house out of popsicle sticks? Getting in touch with your inner child is a great way to indulge in some playful self-care.

Have a Dance Party

There’s nothing more fun than playing some music and dancing along. Take turns choosing songs and find out what everyone’s favorites are. I guarantee you’ll feel a million times better after dancing it out with your kids.

Not only is practicing self-care daily a wonderful thing for you and your mental health, but doing it with and in front of your kids shows them how to start practicing their own self-care as well. Kids are very observant and pick up on the things we do as moms. By showing them how caring for yourself is just as important as caring for others, you’re setting them up for a future of healthy balances.
