Preparing for Halloween Tricks and Treats
The leaves are finally changing colors and the wind is bringing in chilly weather at last. We know when this happens that Halloween is right around the corner! You’ve likely started to think about the big day and you might have already started attending some fun Halloween events and activities with your kids this fall. With only a couple of weeks to go, we have some tips to help you make this the most fun Halloween yet!
Keep it Simple
Not everything has to be a big to-do! If you’re a Halloween lover, by all means feel free to go all out with decorations, costumes, and treats. But if you’re just looking for a fun way to celebrate without overdoing it, that’s perfectly okay too. There’s no need to compare yourself to others when it comes to holidays!
To make things a little easier on yourself, engage your kids in the fun of Halloween. Let them help decorate the house and outdoors. Ask for their assistance with making their own costume. Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect and letting them get in on the fun will build memories they will keep for a lifetime.
Go Homemade!
When it comes to Halloween, half of the fun is the creativity behind it. Usually, the more unique costumes and treats are homemade or DIY projects that you won’t be able to find in a store. Use old fabrics and sheets, cardboard boxes, and anything else that’s laying around the house to create a fun and unique costume. Consider making homemade treats that are cheaper than store bought and get the kids involved too. Things like Rice Krispy Treats, chocolate dipped pretzels, and Halloween themed cupcakes are easy to make with kids and everyone will love them!
Review Safety Rules
Halloween is a really fun holiday for so many reasons, but it also comes with a unique set of safety needs. Trick or treating at night, especially with little kids, requires a bit more attentiveness from parents and trusted adults. Remember to go over these Halloween safety rules with your kids before heading out for treats:
Adults need to be able to see you at all times. Don’t run too far ahead of where the adults are.
Wearing something that lights up on your costume is a must. In the dark, it’s important that adults and cars are able to see where you are.
Don’t go into the street without a parent.
Walk on sidewalks and driveways to avoid tripping and falling on branches, tree roots, or other things that might be hard to see in the dark.
We hope you have the most fun Halloween ever this year!
