Where to Find New Mom Friends

Being a mom can be super lonely at times. We know that motherhood can sometimes make you feel like you're a one-woman show in a circus, juggling more balls than you ever thought humanly possible. But fear not, for the magical elixir to surviving and thriving lies in one simple yet profound word: friends. Yes, I said it – friends! Those fabulous beings who can rescue you from the depths of despair and remind you that you're still a vibrant human. Now, I know what you're thinking: how in the world do I make mom friends?? Maybe you’ve tried to make mom friends and nothing has come out of it. Maybe your social interactions with other moms have fallen flat because all anyone wants to talk about is sleep schedules. Or maybe this is your first go around and you just don’t quite know where to start. We have some great insight on how to make more mom friends that will turn into part of your support system in no time!

1. Workout Buddies

If you already attend a gym, fitness studio, or other place to get your sweat on, you’ve likely spotted some of the same people in attendance. See if you can spot someone friendly and strike up a conversation. Start with common ground, your workout, and build from there. You already see this person or people several times a week, so why not get to know them?!

2. Get Classy

Join a class or activity that suits your hobbies and interests - art, writing, finances, underwater basket weaving, whatever tickles your fancy. Not only will you be participating in your own self care by doing something that’s just for you (look at you go!) but you can easily meet new friends this way because you’re sharing a common interest from the start. And if this class is scheduled for a regular meeting time, you’ll have a built-in opportunity to see your new bestie!

3. Café Confidants

Coffee shops aren't just for caffeine addicts anymore; they're havens for sleep-deprived parents. Casually compliment someone's choice of latte and let the conversation flow. It's like a mom version of a spy movie, minus the espionage.

4. Volunteering Ventures

Engaging in community projects not only benefits your neighborhood but also connects you with like-minded individuals. Bond over building that community garden while chatting about yourself and your other interests.

5. Do a Mom Date

The internet is still a great place to find local mom groups to be a part of and typically they have events scheduled you can participate in. By attending these events specifically for moms, you’re guaranteed to make connections with moms you can relate to.

Now, let's talk about the importance of these mom connections. We're not just advocating for girls' night partners in crime here; we're talking about a lifeline, a network, and a source of sanity checks. When the going gets tough (and it does, often), who else can truly understand the ups and downs of parenting? Your mom friends – the ones who are going through the same things as you. The ones who can provide advice and support because they’ve been there themselves. Having these friends in your corner is essential to feeling supported and cared for.
