How to Have Less Stress as a Mom
We as moms face an unparalleled amount of stress in our daily lives. With so much on our plates, it's sometimes difficult to think of ways to lower our stress levels. I mean, aren’t those little people we love so much the MAIN source of stress? Just kidding…sort of.
There are ways to lower your stress levels without kicking those adorable little humans (read: monsters) to the curb. The good news is these stress-relievers might be easier than you think!!
1. Pass the Ball
If you were to make a list of all the things you have to do today, consider the tasks you can pass off to your partner, a coworker, your neighbor, or another mom at school. Also, consider how you can simplify tasks for yourself to lighten the load. I bet there are at least a few on your list that can be reassigned or made easier. Here are some ideas:
You need to bring cupcakes to the bake sale. Go buy them instead of making them.
You need to come up with a dinner menu to cover every night this week. Ask your partner to take on two nights of planning, prepping, and cooking.
If your kids are old enough, give them tasks that are age appropriate, like walking the dog or taking out the trash.
Have your groceries delivered, or order them for pick up.
And my personal favorite: make your kids clean up after themselves. It doesn't have to be you.
As moms, we do a killer job at completing our tasks. In turn, when other people do them, they might not do it to the standard we set for ourselves. THAT’S OKAY! Passing the ball means it's off your plate and onto someone else's plate. Allow someone else to do it their way so it can get done. And don’t even think about redoing it after either, because that’s pointless. Let it go and move on.
2. Live Well
I could go on and on about living well. Mentally, physically, and emotionally, the way you live your day-to-day life affects how you feel. If you are living in a way that makes you physically ill, ( eating a whole cake, never moving your body, drinking too much vodka) you WILL be more stressed. There are a million different ways to live well. Pick one, and use it as a stress reliever. If you find yourself saying:
“Wow this yoga class makes me feel so good,” then keep doing it!
“I love waking up early and having time to myself,” honey, set your alarm!
“Journaling helps me to unpack the heaviness of my day,” did you see, we have free journal prompts?!
Get the picture?
3. Positive Mindset
Your mind is so freaking powerful! The way you think determines how you feel. If you tell yourself you are stinky garbage, you're going to feel like stinky garbage. If you beat yourself up for being late, missing a deadline, or forgetting a playdate, it will manifest into stress. Do not linger in the negative any longer than necessary. Feel the feelings and go. Do you ever find yourself being unnecessarily negative? As in, you can’t get out of the glass half empty kind of thoughts. Knock it off! Being positive can honestly CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
