Simple Steps to Get You Back on Track

It’s no secret that motherhood is a demanding job that can often lead to feelings of overwhelm and burnout. When moms start to feel these things, it's not uncommon for unhealthy habits to creep into our routines. It might start off as small things at first, but before you know it, things look quite different from how they normally are. The good news is that by recognizing these habits and taking proactive steps, we can create positive changes that rejuvenate our spirits and help us flourish. Here are just a few simple steps you can take to get back on track by changing those unhealthy habits for more positive ones.

1. Embrace Mindful Awareness

The first step in breaking down unhealthy habits is to cultivate mindful awareness. Often, our routines become so ingrained that we engage in activities without truly realizing their impact on our well-being. Pause, take a deep breath, and observe your daily habits without judgment. Are you consistently skipping meals, neglecting exercise, or sacrificing sleep? Identifying these patterns and acknowledging them is the first step in being able to make change.

2. Small Steps Towards Big Transformation

Creating new, healthier habits doesn't require a complete overhaul overnight. Start by introducing small, manageable changes that align with your goals. If you've been bypassing breakfast in the morning rush, dedicate a few extra minutes to make sure you have something to eat each morning. Incorporate short walks into your day to invigorate your body and clear your mind. Gradually, these small changes can evolve into routines that have a lasting impact on your overall well-being.

3. Cultivate Self-Compassion

It's super important to approach the process of change with self-compassion rather than self-criticism. If you stumble or fall back into old habits, remember that it's a part of the process. Treat yourself with understanding, forgiveness, and encouragement. By adopting a kinder inner dialogue, you create an environment that fosters growth and empowerment.

4. Establish a Support System

Breaking free from unhealthy habits can be a challenging endeavor, and you don't have to navigate this path alone. Surround yourself with a support system that uplifts and encourages you. Connect with fellow moms so you can share your triumphs and setbacks, exchange tips, and celebrate each other's successes. Through shared experiences, you'll find strength and motivation to persevere.

5. Prioritize Self-Care

Remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's an essential aspect of being the best version of yourself for your loved ones. Set aside moments each day to engage in activities that bring you joy and make sure you stick to and make time for these things each day.

By making small changes in your daily routines, you will soon be back on track and feeling more like your normal, balanced self. If you’re looking for a more in-depth guide on how to change your routines and make new goals, check out our workbook, “A Mom’s Guide to Wellness.”
