5 Wellness Habits to Start Right Now

Adding new wellness habits to your daily routines doesn’t mean you need to do anything drastic. Oftentimes we think of creating new habits as needing to get all the pieces in place in order to get started. Maybe you feel like your new habit requires a new wardrobe or a trip to the store for supplies. I’m here to tell you that is definitely not true. You can start adding in new, small wellness habits that will make your days better from the start without having to do very much, if any, preparation. Here are five wellness habits you can start right now to make your days feel a little bit better.

Sunshine Before Screens

I know it’s tempting to jump right into checking your phone when you first wake up. The endorphin rush you get from seeing missed text messages and social media notifications has become so commonplace we hardly even think about doing it anymore. The trouble with checking your phone in the morning before anything else is that we can easily get sucked into what’s on the screen rather than doing other things. Take the first part of your day to get up, get ready, and seek out the sunshine. Spending this time waking up your body without looking at a screen will help you feel more awake and ready to tackle the day.

Breakfast Before Coffee

Many of us moms run on coffee throughout our days and the morning can’t truly start until those first sips are in your system. However, without eating breakfast, coffee can cause all sorts of issues and actually leave you feeling more tired and more anxious than you were before. Be sure to have breakfast each morning before you start your coffee routine. Better yet, make sure your breakfast has protein in it to feel fuller longer and get the energy you need for the first part of your day.

Get Outside Daily

Sometimes it’s hard to want to get outside. When it’s cold, rainy, or even just gray, we tend to want to stay inside and sink into the couch. But getting fresh air is great for our bodies and a wonderful way to reset your mind if you’re feeling down. Taking time to get outside has a lot of benefits that can help you feel better about your day.

Move Your Body in Ways that Feel Good

We all know exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle but it can be harder to get motivated on some days. Think about the ways that you like to move your body. Do you enjoy slow flow yoga because you can take your time going through each pose? Or do you like a brisk walk to your favorite podcast each day? Whatever makes you feel good is what you should be doing! Don’t worry about whether it’s “enough” or how many miles you’ve put in (unless you’re into that kind of thing). Just think about getting to move your body in ways that make you feel alive and happy.

Set Up Friend Dates

This is probably the most intricate wellness habit of the five because it takes planning, coordination, and time. As moms, we get caught in the cycle of being there for our kids and families and not taking time for ourselves to be who we are outside of parenting. Setting up dates to go out with your friends is important to maintain those strong relationships with your support group. Plus, who doesn’t like getting out of the house every once in a while?!
