Quick Changes for Better Wellness
By now, most of us have settled into some kind of routine for the summer. It likely isn’t as planned or rigid as what it might be during the other months of the year, but it works well enough. The question is, are you doing enough for yourself as a mom? I’m not trying to add more to your plate, but are you doing the things that come along with taking care of yourself? How’s your mental health been lately? What about your physical wellbeing? Are you feeling well-rested or does a mid-afternoon nap more than necessary at this point? If you’re questioning what health is looking like for you nowadays, you’ll probably want to add at least a few of these simple things to your routine this week.
Daily water goals - Especially in the summer, you need to be drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. Make a goal to drink more water than you typically do and do your best to stick to it. Fill a fun cup or water bottle and watch the ounces go by!
Getting enough sleep - Late summer nights can easily catch up to us over time. Set a bedtime each night and don’t waver from it. Especially if you have to be up at a certain time for work or your kids are early risers, make your bedtime early enough to get around 7 hours of sleep each night.
Screen limits - We all know the happiness that can come from mindlessly scrolling our phones. Try to get up and get some sunshine before looking at your screen. Or try reading before going to bed instead of watching videos on your phone in bed.
Eat regular meals - A lot of times in the summer, we throw something together at the last minute and call it a meal. Be mindful of what you’re eating and make sure it’s enough to sustain and fuel you for the whole day.
Movement before work - If you’re headed to a desk job, try and get some movement in before you head to the office. This could be some stretching, yoga, or a walk to get your blood flowing before a day of mostly sitting.
Just adding one or two of these quick items to your routine each week should help you to feel a little bit better every day!
