Two Tips for an Easier Morning

Mornings often spike a sense of anxiety and panic for many moms. There are so many things going on all at once: get the kids up and dressed, pack lunches, serve breakfast, make sure everyone has their items, make sure you’re wearing some format of clothing, get the kids to school or daycare, and then start your day either at home or at work. Most of us are exhausted before 8am! Wouldn’t it be nice to have an easier morning? To enjoy some peace and quiet before you hit the ground running? Here are two things you can do to have an easier start to your day.

  1. Get up before the kids and have a morning routine for yourself. In the quiet of the morning hours you can have some peaceful time to yourself to do whatever you’d like. Maybe it’s your hair and makeup routine or getting in a morning workout at home to feel really great about yourself. Perhaps it’s taking time to meditate or journal about your hopes for the day and your grateful heart. It could be brewing some coffee or tea and spending a chunk of time cozied up with a good book you’ve been wanting to read. You can also choose to use this time for other things like packing lunches or organizing your grocery list if that’s helpful for you first thing in the morning. Of course, getting up earlier will require an earlier bedtime and being aware of the amount of rest your body needs. But without the chaos of the morning, you’ll be able to more peacefully start your day and step into it feeling more relaxed.

  2. Give your kids your undivided attention when they wake up. Many times busy moms feel guilty about not spending enough quality time with their kids. Especially in the whirlwind of the mornings before school and work, we can miss out on these moments with our kids and wish to get them back later. Since you’ll be waking up a little earlier for your own time, you can feel free to relax a little more and be present with your kids once they’re getting ready for the day. Even just a few minutes focused directly on them can kick off your day on a positive note.

And that’s it! Two simple things to make your day just a little bit smoother from the get go. Now, I can’t promise that there won’t be bumps along the way, but I can guarantee that you’ll start your days feeling calmer and more at peace if you try these two things.
