Five ways a new dad can bond with baby

1. Soft touches with your child are a must. Handle with tender loving care, of course. Swaddling is highly recommended for the first couple of months.

2. It’s important to wash your hands before any contact with your child, and to insist anyone else do so as well. Generally speaking, and from a general health perspective, the least amount of different people holding the baby during their first two months, the better.

3. Sharing responsibilities of late-night feedings and diaper changes is a must in building a bond with your child(and your spouse). Be sure to support their head a neck as carefully as possible when holding your infant. Studies show babies like the people that feed them. Who doesn’t? And as for the diapers, once you’ve changed that first one, the rest are a breeze.

4. Be verbal and use a softer tone with your child. Read a story or make up your own. Speak gently and make faces at each other. You will be connecting without even trying.

5. Be there and help all you can during the delivery of your child. It’s your opportunity to start bonding with your child. That first look of your new baby lasts forever.
