5 Healthy Habits for Moms

Every day is an opportunity to make a positive change in our lives. Moms can get bogged down by the burdens of motherhood and start to put their needs after those of their kids or other people. When those needs include healthy habits that start getting neglected, you might feel some adverse side effects that leave you tired, irritable, or just plain yucky. Here are five healthy habits to incorporate each day to help you feel your best.

Eat Before Caffeine

Many moms turn to caffeine in the morning to start their day, especially when they have little ones who have a hard time sleeping at night. The ritual of kicking off your day with caffeine isn’t necessarily all bad, but you need to make sure you eat something first. Caffeine is really hard on our bodies, and without a base of something in our stomachs, it can make us jittery and anxious. Eating something for breakfast before that morning cup of coffee will not only keep the jitters away, but will also give your body the energy it needs without getting irritable and tired. For the best possible results, eat something with some fat and protein in it.

Learn to Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a tool that helps us to stay present and focused in the current moment. There are a lot of things pulling at our attention every single day. Learning how to slow down and be aware of the space we’re in and what’s happening around us is important to keep our bodies and brains in balance. This practice can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths throughout the day and just focusing on how the breath feels going in and out of your lungs. You can also lengthen your practice to become better at on demand mindfulness.

Move Your Body Daily

Taking the time just for you to get up and around each day is very important to your overall physical and mental health. You don’t have to commit to hours each day. Even just 20 minutes of walking or dancing can have incredible benefits. Moving your body is a type of self-care that is necessary for everyone. Find time every day for some exercise to give your brain a break and allow your blood to flow a little faster than normal.

Hydrate

Drink your water! Our bodies were not meant to live on coffee/tea/pop alone! Water has so many health benefits like flushing out toxins and keeping our joints lubricated. When you stay hydrated, everything inside your body can run more smoothly. Keep a water bottle with you wherever you go, especially out of the house, and commit to drinking water throughout the day.

Limit Your Scrolling

We all know by now that social media is not real life. A lot of what we consume on the internet is filtered and edited to make things pretty and perfect. Unfortunately, this can often lead to feelings of comparison and self-doubt, which is not something we need in our lives. Also, mindless scrolling can cause our attention spans to decrease over time, which might lead to feeling like you can’t focus. Finally, scrolling before bed can actually make us less relaxed because of the bright lights from the screen.

By keeping these healthy habits in mind, you’ll be able to feel better and more alert during the day. It might be hard to change all of these things at the same time, so try making small changes that seem manageable and realistic to your lifestyle!
