3 Things to Do This Summer to Care for Yourself as a Mom
As we talked about in our last blog post, summertime can be hard for moms when the kids are home all day, every day. We shared some ways to get organized and have a little routine each day to help things go more smoothly and allow you the opportunity to have some space for yourself. Of course daily self care is a part of that list because it’s so important. If you’re struggling to find ways to incorporate self care into your summer days, here are three things you can do this summer to care for yourself as a mom.
Set aside time every day for your wellness
When you consider what your daily summer schedule looks like, be sure to carve out time for your own personal wellness. This might look like getting up a little earlier to make yourself a good breakfast. Or sitting on the porch with a book during nap time. Or going for a casual walk after dinner is finished. The options are endless and you only need to do things that bring you joy. If waking up earlier makes you feel even more tired, enjoy your moments to sleep and rest! If naptime feels like fleeting moments, choose another time! Insisting that you have this time for yourself each day will help you recharge your batteries and maintain a low level of stress. 2. Make time to get together with your friends
Having a support system is so important in motherhood. Having a group of friends you can rely on is equally important to maintaining great mental health. Getting together with other adults when you’ve been with your kids all day (or all week) is like a breath of fresh air! You can talk about anything you want, vent a little, and leave feeling really great inside. Plus, having plans to look forward to on the calendar is always a great morale booster. If you’re wanting to grow your support system but aren’t sure where to start, check out our workbook, “A Mom’s Guide to Building Connection,” for more tips.
3. Get in daily movement with or without your kids
Movement each day is key to great mental and physical health. We all know it can be hard to get a workout in with busy schedules and kids to think about. It’s not always feasible to leave the house for the gym or a class and at home workouts can be tricky with little ones around. Rather than stressing out about it, consider getting your movement in different ways. Maybe take a family bike ride at the park or go for a walk together. You can play outside with your kids or go swimming at the local pool. Your daily movement might not look the same each day and that’s perfectly fine!
